It might have been a while since you felt the sun on your skin but things are slowly heating up, and we’re ready for a season of blue skies and beach days. There aren’t many things that can dampen our holiday spirit, but strict airport baggage allowances are certainly one of the biggest!

Picture this: you have to be at the airport in four hours, there are clothes everywhere, and you can’t for the life of you find your favourite swimsuit. Don’t worry! With our tips and tricks for packing the perfect holiday capsule wardrobe, plus our collection of holiday capsule wardrobe essentials, you can avoid the panic and overcome any packing problems.

Holiday Capsule Wardrobe Essentials

We know that summer doesn’t necessarily mean sunshine so, without some kind of psychic power, packing light can be tricky – particularly if you’re lucky enough to be away for longer than a week. Our tried-and-tested advice is to try and stick to these ratios for the perfect balance of beach-inspired style and effortless elegance.

3 tees and 2 long sleeved tops
1 or 2 wear-with-anything neutral cardigans or wraps
3 pairs of neutral coloured leggings, trousers or skirts
2 swimsuits or bikinis
2 lightweight throw-on-and-go dresses
1 pair of shorts

With a limited selection and less space to work with, the patterns, prints and colours you choose are more important then ever. Save your brighter colours for your statement-making swimwear, dresses and t-shirts, and keep your cover-ups and basics in cool neutrals that will go with anything.

When it comes to sunny escapes and suitcases, the key to effortless style and easy packing is lightweight fabrics. They’ll keep you cool and comfortable in the sunshine, they’re easy to layer on cooler days, and most importantly, they’re ready to roll! Rather than folding and stacking, rolling your clothes will save surprising amounts of space and allow you to carry a smaller case, or capsule if you will! You’re aiming for 3 equal sized, sausage-shaped rows in your case.

Roll one – lay out your tops and dresses, one on top of the other, and roll them up tight. If you’re taking anything that’s particularly prone to creases, keep this on the outside so they’re padded out by the more wrinkle-resistant pieces in the centre.

Roll two – Do the same with your skirts, trousers and shorts. Again, keep your low-maintenance leggings and jersey styles on the inside, and linen and chinos on the outside.

Roll three – Repeat the same process with swimwear, cardigans, wraps and scarves, keeping your swimwear in bundles in the centre.
